In the fourth of the legendary, darkly psychologically westerns they made together, James Stewart and director Anthony Mann head northwest for a tale of moral struggle amid spectacular Yukon settings. In 1896, Jeff Webster (Stewart) and his partner Ben Tatem (Walter Brennan) are driving cattle to market from Wyoming to Canada, where the boom towns pay top dollar for beef. When they arrive in Skagway, the town’s corrupt sheriff (John McIntire) steals the cattle and the pair are forced to fight for their herd. Together with tough saloon keeper Ronda Castle (Ruth Roman), they find themselves up against an evil they were not prepared for.
