Barbara Stanwyck stars as Lily “Baby Face” Powers, a tough woman of unusual beauty who sleeps her way to the top of a banking empire, leaving a trail of broken hearts in her headstrong quest for fame and fortune. Lily starts life working as a barmaid in her father’s factory-town saloon, where she learns to handle herself around tough men. When her father dies, Baby Face takes her maid and moves to New York, where she crosses paths with young office boy Jimmy McCoy (John Wayne), the first in a series of conquests that ends in control of Gotham Trust Company.
