Writer, codirector, and star Stanley Tucci gave American audiences a mouthwatering taste of real Italian cuisine—with nary a spoonful of red sauce in sight—with this delicately subtle, sophisticated tale of food, family, and tradition. In 1950s New Jersey, immigrant brothers Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo (Tucci) serve up the authentic dishes of their home country at their restaurant, the Paradise. The only problem: their customers seem to prefer the Americanized Italian food being dished out by their rivals. In a last-ditch effort to drum up business, the brothers plan a magnificent feast in honor of bandleader Louis Prima—a sumptuous celebration of Italian cooking that will either make or break them.
