Black Masculinity Reframed

Black Masculinity Reframed

2 Episodes

Two courageously vulnerable documentaries shatter the taboos and stigmas surrounding Black masculinity. In #BLACKMENDREAM, artist Shikeith captures the testimonies of nine Black men who, with their backs turned to the camera, candidly recount their experiences with issues like depression, parental neglect, and racial discrimination. It’s a direct descendant of the work of pioneering activist filmmaker Marlon Riggs, whose empowering NON, JE NE REGRETTE RIEN (NO REGRET) defied the culture of fear and shame surrounding the AIDS epidemic by allowing five Black, HIV-positive gay men to speak out about their transformative confrontations with the disease.
