Blood on the Moon
Directed by Robert Wise • 1948 • United States
Starring Robert Mitchum, Barbara Bel Geddes, Robert Preston
This taut western thriller marries the mythology of the frontier with the shadowy style and dark psychological undercurrents of film noir. Out on the Texas range, Jim Garry (Robert Mitchum) rides into town, where he quickly falls in with Tate Riling (Robert Preston), an old mercenary friend who uses him as the muscle in a scheme to swindle local cattle rancher John Lufton (Tom Tully) out of his livestock. When Garry falls in love with Lufton’s formidable daughter Amy (Barbara Bel Geddes), though, he finds himself pitted against his former associate in a bloody confrontation.
