Directed by Robert Parrish • 1951 • United States
Starring Broderick Crawford, Betty Buehler, Richard Kiley
This gut-punching crime drama updates the 1930s gangster-movie formula with the murky moral complexity of 1950s noir. Broderick Crawford brings a wisecracking, tough-guy swagger to the role of a disgraced cop who walks into danger when he goes undercover as a corrupt dockworker in order to get the goods on the racketeers who control the New York waterfront. Watch out for an uncredited Charles Bronson in one of his earliest film appearances.
