Starring Chantal Akerman
Made during Chantal Akerman’s time in Israel, this searching self-portrait was shot almost entirely within the confines of her apartment in Tel Aviv. There, she ruminates on her family, Jewish identity, and childhood. She wonders whether “normal,” everyday life is possible in such a place and what it means to make a film there. Most of all, she does not film with any preconceived intentions, expressing her desire to remain as blank and open as possible and to let the process take its own course—a radical objective in a country where seemingly nothing is neutral.
