Directed by Jonathan Glazer • 2000 • United Kingdom, Spain
Starring Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane
Jonathan Glazer’s debut feature is a startlingly original crime drama built around a ferocious, Academy Award–nominated performance from Ben Kingsley. He plays a frighteningly unhinged, f-bomb spewing sociopath who crashes into the idyllic post-retirement life of his retired ex-partner in crime (Ray Winstone) on the coast of Spain. Throughout, Glazer maintains a masterful control of slow-burn suspense as tensions between the two men gradually simmer, mount, and threaten to explode.
