Gun moll Nan Taylor (Barbara Stanwyck) makes the mistake of falling in love with cop and part-time preacher David Slade (Preston Foster). Slade repays Taylor's affections by putting her in jail, believing prison time will help her leave her wicked ways behind—because he is in love her too. But the penitentiary merely serves to turn Taylor into a hardened criminal who leads a breakout of women prisoners. The first thing Nan does with her newfound freedom is come gunning for Slade. Now will she realize that she loves him as much as he loves her before she kills him—or after?
