With her first starring role, Michelle Yeoh helped to redefine the female action hero on-screen and launched an entire subgenre that would come be known as “girls with guns.” She plays senior Hong Kong police inspector Ng, who is assigned to work with another woman inspector from Scotland Yard (Cynthia Rothrock) to investigate the murder of a London agent who was killed because of the evidence he had collected against a Hong Kong crime syndicate. While navigating each other’s divergent cultures and backgrounds, they punch and kick their way through an investigation that ultimately leads them to a pair of bumbling pickpockets (John Shum and Mang Hoi)—and assassins in hot pursuit.
