Starring Clark Gable, William Powell, Myrna Loy
Famous today as the film that gangster John Dillinger had just watched when he was shot to death by federal agents coming out of a Chicago movie theater, this pre-Code crime drama stars Clark Gable and William Powell as two orphaned brothers who grow up to lead lives on different sides of the law. Gambler Blackie Gallagher (Gable) and his brother, straight-arrow attorney Jim Wade (Powell), although pursuing radically different paths in life, remain close. But when Wade marries Gallagher’s former girlfriend, Eleanor (Myrna Loy), their lives eventually lead them to clash in a courtroom battle. Listen for “The Bad in Every Man,” the forgotten original version of what would become, with a new title and lyrics, the standard “Blue Moon.”
