The Four Musketeers
Directed by Richard Lester • 1974 • United Kingdom, United States
Starring Oliver Reed, Michael York, Raquel Welch
The follow-up to Richard Lester’s brilliantly entertaining THE THREE MUSKETEERS picks up where the previous film left off as D’Artagnan (Michael York)—now a full-fledged musketeer—and his swashbuckling comrades Athos (Oliver Reed), Aramis (Richard Chamberlain), and Porthos (Frank Finlay) fight to protect the Queen of France (Geraldine Chaplin) and her dressmaker (Raquel Welch) from the machinations of the villainous Cardinal Richelieu (Charlton Heston) and Milady de Winter (Faye Dunaway). Bursting with the same infectious humor that made the first film a hit, the sequel also makes room for the story’s darker undercurrents, lending an air of surprising poignancy to the otherwise high-spirited proceedings.
