Set in 1940s Brooklyn, ALAN & NAOMI is a deeply touching story of friendship and the rare children’s film to deal seriously with the issue of trauma. Ever since witnessing the murder of her father by the Nazis, the French-Jewish Naomi (Vanessa Zaoui) has remained in a catatonic state. When she moves to Brooklyn with her surviving family, she meets Alan (Lukas Haas), a streetwise boy who is urged by his parents to help bring the troubled girl out of her shell. At first, Alan’s well-meaning efforts to help Naomi seem to do more harm than good—but gradually his compassion begins to win out.
