Maximum Overdrive

The machines have their day in this giddily over-the-top cult favorite, the sole directorial effort of author Stephen King. After a comet passes by Earth, the world’s machines—from trucks and lawn mowers to ATMs and arcade games—go haywire, turning against humans in a berserk killing rampage. Holed up at a truck stop in North Carolina, a group of strangers—led by diner cook Bill Robinson (Emilio Estevez)—band together to survive the appliance-ocalypse. King’s favorite band, AC/DC, provides the soundtrack.

Starring Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington
