Itim

A nation’s trauma wrapped in a chilling allegory, ITIM (a.k.a. “The Rites of May”) is a 1970s folk-horror spell from Filipino filmmaking powerhouse Mike De Leon. A man (Tommy Abuel) returns to his countryside home and falls for a woman (Charo Santos) seemingly possessed by the spirit of his missing sister, who now demands he solve the mystery behind her disappearance and uncover the truth. Haunting imagery and shockingly transgressive themes set the perfect backdrop for a country grappling with the wounded spirit of its history in this fiery, mournful landmark of Philippine cinema.
