Will Your Heart Beat Faster?

After repeatedly failing to smuggle drugs into the Philippines, yakuza soldier Onota (Boboy Garrovillo) slips a laced cassette tape into the pocket of a stranger on the plane: pop singer Johnny (Christopher de Leon). Determined to figure out why the Yakuza, the Filipino-Chinese Triad, and a fake convent of nuns are all on his tail, Johnny and his friends—bandmates Nonong (Jay Ilagan) and Nancy (Sandy Andolong) and newfound love interest Melanie (Charo Santos)—dress up and go undercover. When the lunatics come together, a cartoonish rock opera ensues! Director Mike De Leon is at his most outlandish in this acerbic musical satire that takes aim at everything from Jesuit education to Chinese and Japanese meddling in Filipino affairs to institutional corruption in all its forms.
