Dust Devil

A uniquely hallucinatory fusion of visceral terror and dreamlike mysticism, this African-set horror reverie—shot on location in Namibia—follows the crisscrossing fates of three souls: a shapeshifting serial killer (Robert John Burke) who hitchhikes across the desert in search of victims; the cop (Zakes Mokae) who enlists a witch doctor’s help in tracking him down; and a woman (Chelsea Field) who leaves her husband behind and embarks on a lonely, aimless odyssey. Awash in images of shimmering dread and surreal poetry, this hypnotic supernatural thriller stands as one of the most ambitious and singular horror films of the 1990s.
