No Picnic

19861 hr 25 min

A wonderfully scruffy, deadpan time capsule from the bohemian fringes of the 1980s East Village, this freewheeling urban picaresque follows Mac (David Brisbin), a hangdog jukebox repairman, as he searches the city’s margins for a mysterious woman—an odyssey that captures the eccentric flavor of downtown Manhattan when it was still the epicenter of cool, as well as the stirrings of gentrification that would soon transform the neighborhood. Shot in gloriously grainy, noir-tinged black-and-white images (which won experimental filmmaker Peter Hutton a Sundance award for Best Cinematography) and featuring classic New York personalities like Richard Hell, Steve Buscemi, and Luis Guzmán, NO PICNIC serves as a gloriously grimy elegy for a bygone era.

Starring David Brisbin, Anne D’Agnillo, Luis Guzmán
