Duke of Groove

Bohemian rhapsody gives way to stark reality in the woozily nostalgic, Academy Award–nominated directorial debut of actor Griffin Dunne. A kind of 1960s counterculture take on “Alice in Wonderland,” DUKE OF GROOVE follows teenager Rich (Tobey Maguire) as he accompanies his mother (Kate Capshaw) to a blissed-out hippy party in a sprawling mansion where the psychedelic wonderland of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll conceals a bitter truth. Among the party’s revelers is a stacked ensemble cast that includes Uma Thurman, Elliott Gould, Kiefer Sutherland, and Udo Kier.
