The Hitcher

An air of dreamlike unreality, eerily beautiful cinematography along the open highways of the Southwest, and a truly frightening performance from Rutger Hauer have given this moody road-movie slasher its lasting cult fascination. En route from Chicago to California, Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) picks up hitchhiker John Ryder (Hauer) along a desolate West Texas road. It’s not long before Ryder reveals himself to be a homicidal maniac who draws the young man into a grisly game of cat and mouse.
