Sound of the Sea

Director Bigas Luna blends Greek myth, mystery, and eros into a sensuous, visually sumptuous thriller. In a small seaside town, newly arrived literature teacher Ulises (Jordi Mollà) awakens the desires of his landlord’s daughter, Martina (Leonor Watling), until he mysteriously disappears at sea, leaving her to raise their child alone. Eventually, Martina resigns herself to a comfortable but loveless relationship with the wealthy Sierra (Eduard Fernández)—but what happens when Ulises unexpectedly returns?
