Pilgrim, Farewell
Directed by Michael Roemer • 1980 • United States
Starring Elizabeth Huddle, Christopher Lloyd, Elizabeth Franz
Having chronicled the last days of terminally ill people for his documentary DYING, director Michael Roemer channeled his experiences making that film into this emotionally raw and wrenching drama. Produced for PBS’s “American Playhouse,” PILGRIM, FAREWELL is an unsparingly human portrait of Kate (Elizabeth Huddle), a thirty-nine-year-old widow dying of cancer in the Vermont countryside. As she deals with her impending death by lashing out at the world, she struggles to make final peace with those around her, including her volatile daughter (Laurie Prange), estranged sister (Leslie Paxton), and patient but anxious lover (Christopher Lloyd).
