Two women at an emotional crossroads are brought together by fate—and by the eternal comforts of food and music—in Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani’s feature debut, a gracefully understated celebration of the healing power of female friendship. Grieving widow Abla (Lubna Azabal) runs a modest local bakery from her home in Casablanca, where she lives with her eight-year-old daughter Warda (Douae Belkhaouda). Their routine of housework and homework is interrupted one day by a knock on the door. It is Samia (Nisrin Erradi), a pregnant young woman searching for a job and a roof over her head. When Abla reluctantly welcomes the desperate stranger into her home, it marks the beginning of a transformative new chapter in both of their lives.
