Directed by Frank Tashlin • 1955 • United States
Starring Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Shirley MacLaine
Former Looney Tunes animator Frank Tashlin brings his cartoon-crazy sight gags, eye-popping Technicolor art direction, and absurdist pop-culture commentary to perhaps the finest of the collaborations between comic dream team Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Here, Dino plays a Greenwich Village artist struggling to come up with ideas for his horror comic-book series. Luckily, his mild-mannered roommate (Lewis) dreams ’em up—literally. Jerry talks in his sleep, Dean takes dictation, and everybody’s happy . . . until Jerry’s dreams turn telepathic and Russian spies get in on the act! Shirley MacLaine (in only her second film appearance) is a dizzy delight as Jerry’s lovestruck neighbor.
