Collective: Unconscious

Directed by Lily Baldwin, Nuotama Bodomo, Daniel Patrick Carbone, Josephine Decker, and Lauren Wolkstein • 2016 • United States

Five of contemporary cinema’s most adventurous filmmakers—Lily Baldwin, Nuotama Bodomo, Daniel Patrick Carbone, Josephine Decker, and Lauren Wolkstein—adapt each other’s dreams (and nightmares) for the screen in this audacious, deliriously surreal anthology film. Taking us from a PE class held inside an erupting volcano to a disturbing game show hosted by the Grim Reaper to the seemingly idyllic home of a young mother who can no longer contain the demon growing inside her, these five shorts are by turns darkly humorous, disturbing, and hallucinatory voyages into the furthest realms of the subconscious mind.
