Starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey
A stranger-than-fiction true story provides the basis for this arrestingly offbeat black comedy from Richard Linklater. Bernie (a marvelous Jack Black) is a much-loved mortician in small-town Texas who becomes the constant companion of Marjorie (Shirley MacLaine), a wealthy widow more than four decades his senior. As Marjorie’s behavior turns increasingly controlling, the mild-mannered Bernie goes to extreme lengths to extricate himself from the relationship.
