Directed by Alain Guiraudie • 2022 • France
Starring Jean-Charles Clichet, Noémie Lvovsky, Iliès Kadri
Director Alain Guiraudie’s typically subversive spin on the Gallic sex farce blends ribald comedy with sharp social satire for a provocative and unpredictable look at everything from sexism to Islamophobia in contemporary France. In the city of Clermont-Ferrand, Médéric (Jean-Charles Clichet) meets and falls in love with the married, middle-aged sex worker Isadora (Noémie Lvovsky). When the city center is rocked by a terrorist attack, Selim (Ilies Kadri), a young homeless man, provokes a wave of anti-Muslim paranoia by taking refuge in Médéric’s building. Sympathetic to Selim, crazy about Isadora, Médéric sees his life spin suddenly out of control.
