1h 41m
Directed by Sofia Coppola • 2003 • United States, Japan
Starring Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Giovanni Ribisi
Sofia Coppola’s wonderfully woozy, mood-drenched is-it-a-love-story? unfolds amidst the lavish yet lonely corridors of the Park Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, where Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), the young, emotionally adrift wife of a photographer on assignment in Japan, and Bob (Bill Murray), a washed-up American actor in the city to make a quick buck by shooting a whisky commercial, gradually form an unexpected connection far away from home. Despite the vast differences between them, a powerful emotional chord is struck that inspires them each to awaken from their existential malaise—if only for a moment.
