It’s a race to the altar when down-on-his-luck stockbroker Jimmie Shannon (Buster Keaton) learns that he stands to inherit seven million dollars if he gets married by seven p.m. on his twenty-seventh birthday—which happens to be that very same day. With the clock ticking, Jimmie takes out an advertisement for a bride—and soon finds himself being pursued by five hundred would-be-wives in a dazzling extended chase that climaxes with one of Keaton’s most daring and memorable set-pieces, in which the Great Stone Face must outrun an avalanche of tumbling boulders.
