Leaving November 30
•
1h 54m
Directed by Alan Rudolph • 1997 • United States
Starring Nick Nolte, Julie Christie, Lara Flynn Boyle
Nick Nolte and a luminous, Academy Award–nominated Julie Christie deliver superb performances in this multilayered, offbeat comic look at what keeps a marriage going after the initial spark has died. He’s a philandering handyman suggestively named Lucky Mann, while she’s his wife, Phyllis Hart, a former B-movie actress who tacitly tolerates the casual affairs he has with his clients—as long as he doesn’t get emotionally involved. When Lucky gets intimately entangled with a sexually frustrated yuppie housewife (Lara Flynn Boyle), it throws their understanding off-balance—and leads Phyllis to pursue her own romantic adventure.
