The Beaver
Leaving November 30
•
1h 30m
Directed by Jodie Foster • 2011 • United States, United Arab Emirates
Starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lawrence
Regrettably overshadowed by offscreen drama on its release, the boldest directorial effort to date from Jodie Foster is a searing portrait of midlife crisis with one of the most audacious premises in recent memory. Cripplingly depressed, the formerly successful business executive and family man Walter Black (Mel Gibson) sees his life hit rock bottom—until redemption comes along in a most unexpected form: a beaver hand puppet that soon becomes his sole vehicle of communication. As the line between Walter and his beaver alter ego grows increasingly indistinguishable, his wife (Foster) begins to fear he may be lost forever.
