SAFE director Todd Haynes’s first serious directorial effort was this surreal, 22-minute short from 1978, about the sufferings of a middle school student. Haynes thought it was lost until a chance meeting in 2014 with the producer, Michael Quinn Martin, who had recently discovered a print at his parents’ home.
