Director Huang Ji’s follow-up to EGG AND STONE continues her incisive exploration of China’s marginalized youth, here though the unflinchingly observed story of sixteen-year-old Lynn (played once again by the extraordinary Yao Honggui), a high school student who, left behind by her parents and bullied at school, turns to stealing cell phones in order to make quick money. Her experiences in the city’s underbelly introduce her to a world of cruel exploitation and sexual violence from which she struggles to escape.
