Jean-Paul Belmondo channels James Bond as Josselin Beaumont, a French secret-service agent who has been dispatched to the fictional African country of Malagawi with instructions to assassinate its dictator. When the political situation changes drastically, however, Beaumont is betrayed by his own government and thrown into a Malagawian prison—leaving him determined to get revenge on those who wronged him and to see his original assignment through. Ennio Morricone’s score features the memorable main theme “Chi Mai,” which went on to become an instrumental hit.
