Directed by Sydney Freeland • 2014 • United States
Starring Jeremiah Bitsui, Carmen Moore, Morningstar Angeline
The feature debut from Sydney Freeland is a refreshingly complex, insightful portrayal of the contemporary Native American experience from three different perspectives. Adopted by white parents as a child, Nizhoni (Morningstar Angeline) seeks to reconnect with her Navajo roots. Young father Sick Boy (Jeremiah Bitsui) wants to provide a better life for his family—but constantly finds himself in trouble due to his drinking. And Felixia (Carmen Moore), a transgender woman, works as an escort while setting her sights on a modeling career. Together their stories offer a moving, multifaceted look at the process of finding oneself on the margins of the United States.
