In the early 1990s, Act Up–Paris activists advocate for those stricken with HIV/AIDS with a literal life-or-death urgency. Amid rallies, fierce debates, and ecstatic dance parties, Nathan (Arnaud Valois), a newcomer to the movement, falls in love with the radical veteran protester Sean (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart), who is dying of AIDS. Director Robin Campillo (cowriter of Laurent Cantet’s THE CLASS) traces both their love story and the activist spirit of the era with an electrifying immediacy in this bracing time capsule of a pivotal moment in queer history that garnered the Grand Prix at Cannes and six César Awards, including best film.
