Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz • 1967 • United States
Starring Rex Harrison, Susan Hayward, Cliff Robertson
Director Joseph L. Mankiewicz brings his characteristic sophistication to this witty black comedy in brilliant Technicolor. Inspired by Ben Jonson’s play “Volpone,” millionaire Cecil Fox (Rex Harrison) feigns a terminal illness in an attempt to trick three of his former lovers (Susan Hayward, Edie Adams, and Capucine) and find out which one really cares for him . . . or his money. Soon, the women are at his bedside, but as Fox puts on his charade, things take an unexpected turn from a crafty scheme to a full-blown murder mystery.
