The final horror film released by legendary British studio Hammer Films until its revival in the 2000s, this adaptation of a novel by occult specialist Dennis Wheatley pits Christopher Lee and Richard Widmark against each other in an epic satanic showdown. Heretic priest Father Michael Rayner (Lee) devises a plan to use teenage nun Catherine Beddows (Nastassja Kinski) as a pawn in a diabolical demonic ritual. When a researcher of the dark arts (Widmark) learns of the plot, he must use his expertise to do battle against Rayner’s cult and save the girl’s soul.
