In this lavishly entertaining noir melodrama, bored, glamorous housewife Sheila Cabot (Lana Turner, swathed in luxe couture), wishing to be free of her crippled husband but not his enormous fortune, convinces her lover (Anthony Quinn), who just so happens to be her spouse’s personal physician, to inject poison into the ailing industrialist. With the husband out of the picture, the murderous lovers seem free to enjoy their newfound wealth and happiness—until Sheila receives a letter revealing that someone else knows about the crime.
